McCartney's Misery

The long and winding road to a final settlement continues to elude former Beatle Paul McCartney. Returning to a High Court in London for the second round of hearings to reach a final financial settlement, the issue has come down to the bottomline, money; and all the misery it has brought Sir Paul in this tempestuous marriage.

Heather Mills is representing herself in this case and is projected to receive anywhere between 60 to 100 million pounds of Paul's estimated 800 plus million pound wealth. The biggest divorce settlement in British courts was 48 million pounds imposed against businessman John Charman last May. The McCartney - Mills divorce is being held behind closed doors and is expected to last 5 days. Speculation among divorce experts suggest that their 4 year old daughter Beatrice will be provided for and ensure that there is no overwhelming disparity between her mother's lifestyle and Paul's, from her point of view.

Mills, who once lambasted the media for portraying her as a gold digger, claimed that she had been driven on the brink of suicide for the treatment she received from the press. She added that she suffered abuse beyond those hurled against murderers or pedophiles. For his part, Paul McCartney has kept silent and seeks to have Heather do the same as a condition under the settlement. The court will make its decision, taking into account the limited span of the marriage. Details of the settlement will not be made public.

By the end of this case, Paul McCartney will have gone through an acrimonious divorce arising from a failed marriage that was exploited in public, for all the juicy details, late in his storied career. At 65 years old, an age where he should be retiring in the Isle of Wight, Heather is not predisposed to need or feed him, but rather feed on him. And the money that has caused all this misery will be sliced for the once low ranking ex-model, who will certainly fly in the sky with diamonds, from Paul's hard day's night incomes of over five decades.

Sergeant Pepper should take careful stock of his image as he may be portrayed like the fool on the hill at this late stage in his life. It would be a sorry finis to the legacy of the highly regarded Beatles band to have one of its stalwarts billed as a loser.

Poor Paul...Well I suppose that's an oxymoron....Poor(er) Paul may be more in line. If only it would have stopped at I wanna hold your hand....but alas....children aren't born by such methods...Didn't Sir Paul do a solid prenup? Gold diggers blow...

Hi Tommy,

He was perhaps so enamored with her and a little sympathetic since she lost a leg; little did he know that in four years, he was going to lose more than she did. It's worth more legs than she could ever imagine. And Paul, well, he could still be thankful he didn't lose his family jewels in the sordid affair.

Paul should have been satisfied with one perfect marriage. He and his first wife were seldom ever separated, only for one night I think, during their entire marriage. Perfection like that can't be duplicated.

Hi Debbie,

Thanks for dropping by. I know this post is way off your regular theme and the continuing advocacy you promote.

I've seen your awesome blogroll that is in several categories, and its looks very formidable.I like what you write and how you write it. It's one of the better political blogs I've been to. Have a nice day. --Durano, done!

it's a crying shame that the media have been involved in this very public and messy divorce...
I don't think that either deserve it and I have to say that after watching an interview with Miss Mills I felt for her...
an excellent discourse on both sides Durano....

Who didn't see this coming from the moment they said "I do"?

Nice play on words and song titles by the way, Durano!

Hello Kim,

I believe it won't be a Happy Valentines Day for Paul McCartney after this settlement is made final this week.:-) It would be a happy one fro Heather Mills. :-)

The media can be cruel and their tenacity borders on viciousness on a number of occasions. They like to ride on the popularity of a celebrity and, with equal delight, join a posse to tear them apart.

Travails of the superstars...they are treated as Gods... and when they show human weaknesses they are stoned to death.

Thanks for the compliment! --Durano, done!

Hi Fitness Diva,
Some people get blindsided by the glare of the moment. I guess it was true for both of them.

Their temperament was perhaps incompatible with the expectations they nurtured from one another. This happens often with the nuances of stardom.

Thanks for the comment on words and titles, it's a habit really.:-) --Durano, done!

Durano, I agree, love the witty song title references. You write with authority on such a great variety of topics.

Debbie, my sister said the same thing about Paul and his 1st marriage. He's only human though...

Hello Zen,

Yes he's human. We all make mistakes and are products of imperfection.

You know the lyrics and song titles to the Beatles songs? I'm impressed. I was assuming at your young age you could possibly sing a few lines or so, but to recall these words - great!

Hang in tough Zen. You're made of sterner stuff than those incompetents in your company give you credit for. I like you and your feisty character in pursuing what's rightfully yours.

Thanks for the visit and the kind words. --Durano, done!

Hi Durano,

Trying to put myself in Paul's shoes, he must have been lonely and found what appeared to be a perfect partner. Whatever happened after that , nobody can really tell. Anyway, both lost in this messy divorce, with one losing more depending on who's point of view. But with money being the most dominant reason to Do or not to do most things, these days, I understand perfectly well why most people feels for Paul.

The businessman in me says, he took the risk and is now bound to lose heavily. Well...

Hi Mad Economist,

There's an old management adage that says, "Never make a decision when you're too happy or too sad". I guess this is the consequence.

Romance is basically an emotional decision, and he was happy to marry because he was tired of being sad and alone. It's double jeopardy for him. I really don't feel for Paul that much, he can afford the settlement. He can't bring all that with him anyway. --Durano, done!

While I believe all decisions have an element of emotion, this one went over the top.
